2991. Leather covers for my sketchbooks

Since I started making my own sketchbooks, I always skip the cover part: which usually is made from the backing of the paper pad. I just feel like they never need it, but at the same time if I travel with these, they'd be so fragile.

After discovering this "Traveller's Notebook" style of cover, where it's like a simple piece of leather wrapped around the notebook and secured with an elastic cord, it picked my interested. So I got one in A6 size from a leather crafter.

With a tiny cat charm by DiscreetlyDraw.

I picked this dark blue colour because I kind of want it to be a colour I would never get sick of. Many of my things are bright in colours, I think dark colour can help combat the colour fatigue. It can also take some ink smudges, which may happen as now I use ink a lot and accidents do happen even if I don't want any.

Initially, I was very skeptical of how it works. Looping the cord over the sketchbooks sound really... loose? I was proven wrong, it didn't need it any tighter. It was quite nice!

I packed three notebook/sketchbooks in this cover: a small notebook I bought years ago from Apenas Illustration, and two homemade mini sketchbooks I did a while ago.

I'm still tweaking my sistem around a lot, but for now I use the notebook/sketchbooks as following:

  1. Idea dump. I've been doing this in my phone but I hate, hate typing on touch screen I really would rather write it down.
  2. Mixed-media sketchbook. Anything and everything goes basically. Scribbling, doodling, ink swatches, writing quotes, etc.
  3. Watercolour sketchbook. Only when I'm in the watercolour mood.

The A5 sketchbook I bought some years ago will finish soon, and I have been using it less as it's not fountain pen friendly. I started this A6 notebook/sketchbooks compilation slowly and have been loving it. Perhaps, smaller paper size is more my thing, even if I like Broad nibs the most.
