2664. Third fountain pen: get! Sailor Profit Fude Nib

I bought some new fountain pens to self-treat myself recently! ✨ This time, I ventured to different brands of pens. My third fountain pen is from Sailor; a brand which has been praised by people, so I was excited to try it! I especially got their Fude Nib, a fun-looking bent nib to mimic "Fude". I got myself some pens mostly to doodle, so this was so exciting!

I... wasn't thrilled when I tried it. 😦

But first, here is how it looks out of the box:

I bought the converter separately. Being used to TWSBIs which already has its own ink reservoir, the idea of converter was not appealing to me. But with its price half of TWSBIs, it grew on me.

I couldn't read Japanese, but it shows some pictures about drawing angle and line thickness. Which is Fude Nib's specialty.

It looks really nice! It's super light (a bit disappointed in that haha) but the Fude Nib excites me more.

If the pen is disassembled, the converter can be placed inside it.

Now, jump to what I wrote previously: it was... disappointing at first try. It was super dry and scratchy. Coming from TWSBI which flows really nicely (and even buttery smooth with Platinum Pigment Ink), this Sailor Profit was on the opposite extreme.

This doodle page was done in my Talens sketchbook. I probably have mentioned this before, but this sketchbook is not very friendly with all of my fountain pens and ink hahaha. It's especially harsh with Sailor Profit Fude Nib, unfortunately.

I guessed the paper was the problem, so I tried this pen on a different paper:

Still scratchy, but SO MUCH BETTER! Aaaaah...! As much as I love my sketchbook, it is so unfriendly toward my pens and ink and it breaks my heart hahaha.

The angle of the pen matters a lot. Lower angle will produce wider lines, and higher angle will produce thinner lines. Trying to play with the angle made me realise that I tend to draw with just a certain angle, and varying the angle of my pen is not very comfortable for me. Or, I am just not used to it yet.

Overall, it wasn't a very satisfying purchase. I still love the pen, it is pretty. I would love it more if it is heavier, a bit longer, and not as scratchy. But again, perhaps it's about finding the right paper to use it on.
