Pippa and Your Phantasmal Problem is here!
This post is a mirror of this itch.io's devlog here.
Pippa and Your Phantasmal Problem is released for Spooktober Jam 2024! Yay! This is my first participation of the jam itself. I usually make cute and fluffy projects, so touching spooky stuff is very new to me.
I consider this VN to be very lighthearted: a small story that makes me smile each time I reread it. I guess the kind of thing I like to make is reflected in this project pretty well: cute and silly characters living in the present and being themselves.
A fun fact: the knowledge I got from my O2A2 2024 entry about choices and stats-management is brought in this VN. Pippa and Your Phantasmal Problem has simpler stats, so I think it should be quite straightforward to get all 3 endings.
Special shoutout to kind people who helped me in this jam: Dalton Attig, who kindly composed really cute soundtrack for this VN! They are really, really cute - I love them so much! I also received amazing help from Sebby, ebi-hime and Wan-chan who have made my writing read so, so much better. I had way too many moments of 'what was I thinking, writing this really weird sentence???' hahaha... I'm very grateful for all the time and help you all have given to me. ;-;
I spent the entire September without break working on this. It was tiring, some sleeps were sacrificed (I love my sleeping time, so it's a big deal for me hahaha) - but, above all of that, I had a lot of fun! I'm really glad I joined, the experience and knowledge I gained in this month are so precious.
Making VNs is fun... I want to do more of this...
Oh, there are a lot of experiments in this VN, most notably in animation. I've actually finished the build two days ago and thought it was all good - but there was this one ATL that kept on breaking for reasons I couldn't understand. It's very hard to explain, but it's about inconsistent positioning of the elements that I'd never touched. I solved it with lots of brute force numbers and it's working fine at the moment, but I do feel like I'm just using a bandage aid to hold everything together hahaha...
With that, please understand that if you skip through the story fastly, some animations may break. I suspect this is Ren'Py's designed behaviour and I have no control over it. >,<;;; I may troubleshoot this one day, but for now, I want to rest.
But! If you find strange issues with the game anyway, let me know in the comment and I'll figure out why.
Thank you for checking this VN out, I hope you have fun!
