2997. New fountain pens: Pilot Kaküno!

This pen is so, so popular I couldn't help but to get myself two of them, both M nib. One was actually enough but I found it at such good price, it could be a back up when I'm experimenting inks.

I wasn't thinking much of the colours, but looking back, the unconscious choices start to have its pattern:

(I haven't unboxed the red Kaküno yet, and don't plan to for now.)

I bought one converter to use for these Kakünos, but thinking that I don't actually need to use it – I can reuse the cartridge that comes with it, refill it to my heart's liking. It can be a back up for now.

Writing test:

Pilot Kaküno's M nib looks very similar, or probably the same as TWSBI's F nib. I like them, so I'm happy with it. I do prefer wetter nibs like Kaweco's M and above, but Kaküno doesn't have B nibs.

This nib size is really good with thinner paper as well, which is what I'll mostly be using to journal since I only use cheaper paper. Also, for doodling and mindless scribbles, it's very nice.

In addition to all that, it has good length. I've been using Kaweco Sports and Hong Dian which both are tiny pens, but Kaküno is much longer than them. I like it! Tiny pens are very portable and fits my hand quite nicely, but default length pens still wins. I do prefer the metal body like Hong Dian or Kaweco Sport AL, but Kaküno's plastic feel is light and nice, I don't have complaints.

Anyway!

Looking back at several pen brands I bought in the last two years, Kaküno is definitely in one of my favourites. I wish I bought this one first before TWSBI or Kaweco, mainly because of the price. I had some moments of splurging on things – in this case, fancy pens and office tools – which I regretted some time later. Years of those taught me to spend money more mindfully now.

Once I settle with my permanent favourites, I may clean up the ones that don't make the cut and gift them to my good friends. :)
