2507. Mixing Platinum Pigment Ink: Blue and Rose Red in TWSBI ECO!

2507. Mixing Platinum Pigment Ink: Blue and Rose Red in TWSBI ECO!

I bought my second fountain pen which I want to use it specifically to paint with watercolour, so it needs waterproof ink! ✨

The shop I got my pen from didn't have the Platinum Carbon Black ink in stock, so I got these instead:

Two super bright ink bottles! 🔴🔵 Platinum Pigment Ink Blue and Rose Red.

I had this crazy idea: if I mix them, they will be purple right? It's the simple formula of red + blue = purple, what can go wrong with it? It's the exact same brand, same series, there shouldn't be any problem... right?

Well, I don't know. But there's no answer without experiments! *putting my scientist goggles on*

I don't have syringes to mix various ink colours carefully. I was thinking: can't I just dip on one ink bottle, suck it, dip on the next ink bottle, suck it, mix inside the pen? After all, TWSBI blessed their pens with large ink capacity.

So I did that, daringly. I can hear the ink purists screaming behind the screen hahaha... 😬💦

Spoiler alert: all went well! Do not worry. 👍

The Rose Red ink is really bright and saturated, so I started from it first. I figure it's better less-worse to contaminate the darker ink than to contaminate the brighter ink. Photo above was taken after I dipped the pen in both ink bottles, that's why the ink colour seen inside the pen looks a little bit darker already.

The rose red ink inside the pen was supposed to look like this ☝️ before contamination sucking the second colour.

What happened on the second colour sucking (not for the faint of hearts):

  • red ink spilled into the blue ink chamber uncontrollably. I panicked, but I couldn't do anything about it. I needed to finish the blue ink sucking asap, I just ignored it. 💔
  • contamination looked a bit worse than I expected... 🥲

After both ink went in, I closed the cap and did some mild shaking. I put way more blue than red since my goal was to create as dark shade as possible.

Looking nice!

It's lighter than I expected from looking at the ink barrel colour. Mixing both colours help cut their hues, though. That's nice, coming from an unthinkable experience my mind just came with randomly.

Ink test:

Apologies for the poor camera quality and the difference in camera lighting! They were taken at different time. ;a;

It creates this lavender-shaded purple colour! I wonder if I can make it darker if I add more blue but I don't want to contaminate my ink bottle more than what it already had. Also, I kind of want to try drawing with this soft purple shade...

Expectations aside, the colour is actually quite cute!

Also, one thing that pleasantly surprised me: writing with this ink feels so much better than my black ink?!?! If I can describe it, it's like "buttery smooth" writing experience. My other only ink experience is the TWSBI Black ink and it's more scratchy than this; although the first time I used that one, it was very smooth in my opinion. Platinum Pigment Ink is so smooth! :D It makes me happy.

Looking forward to testing this ink more in drawing! Also I may lean to using this to writing also hahaha... It's gliding so smoothly, so addicting... The colour is also quite cute.

It's only a few days of using this ink mixture so I don't have much to say about longer use yet. I can make a future post when I finish the loaded ink, as an update of how it goes!
